Glutathione is a tripeptide - consisting of three bonded amino acids.  The liver is particularly sensitive to low glutathione levels, since one of the liver’s most critical jobs is detoxifying compounds entering the body.  The liver and every cell of the body use glutathione as their primary intracellular antioxidant.  Every cell must have glutathione to protect their membranes, lipids, proteins, and DNA.  The importance of glutathione is best illustrated by the phenomenon of liver failure and death due to Tylenol poisoning – a frequent clinical reality.  The detoxification of Tylenol produces aggressive intermediate molecules, which must be quenched quickly with the glutathione.  But, in the case of an overdose, the demand for glutathione is so great that the concentration of reduced cellular glutathione falls below the level needed to protect the liver from the effects of the reactive molecules.  A massive number of liver cells will die within hours during an episode of acute glutathione depletion.  But, if 40 grams of N-Acetylcysteine are given intravenously within hours of the Tylenol overdose, glutathione synthesis increases enough to keep the remaining liver cells alive, and thereby save the patient’s life.  

However beyond N-Acetylcysteine, over 20 different ingredients are required in specific quantities to optimize intracellular glutathione levels and its rate of synthesis.

The formulation of HepTech is based upon numerous scientific papers studying the synthesis and regeneration of the glutathione molecule.  Several antioxidants must work in concert to successfully defuse free radicals and ROS.  Glutathione itself must be constantly regenerated by yet another antioxidant system – NADPH/NADP+.
